The following scholarships and awards were recently granted to ALES graduate students:
- Camila Estefani Orsso received an Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarship
- Arturo Macias received an Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Abhijeet Pathy became a Vanier Scholar
- Andu Berha became a Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) 2024-25 Doctoral Fellows
This year's ALES Graduate Thesis Awards were given to:

FACULTY EXCELLENCE
The latest Canada Research Chair (CRC) announcement named Carla Prado (AFNS) a Tier 1 Chair, and renewed Michael Gänzle (AFNS) as a Tier 1 Chair and Caroline Richard (AFNS) as a Tier 2 Chair.
We are proud of our award-winning faculty members who were recognized in recent months, including:
- Aman Ullah (AFNS) was recognized at the U of A Innovation Awards for his spinoff company, ZAFA Biorefinery Inc.
- Vic Adamowicz (REES) was announced a fellow of the Canadian Resource and Environmental Economics Association (CREEA), as well as a 2025 Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA) Fellow
- Jean Buteau (AFNS) awarded the Researcher of the Year from the 黑料不打烊 Diabetes Foundation
- This year’s AStech Awards recognized Jane Batcheller (HE), David Bressler (AFNS), Patricia Dolez (HE) and Sandeep Agrawal (ALI).
- ALES recipients at Celebrate 2024 included John Basrab (AFNS), Graham Plastow (AFNS), Guillermo Hernandez Ramirez (REES) and Carla Prado (AFNS).
- The Celebration of Service recognized milestones for the following ALES faculty: Walter Dixon (AFNS) 35 years, Janusz Zwiazek (RENR) 35 years and Anne M. Naeth (RENR) 40 years.
