Awards and accolades: Summer 2025

STUDENT SUCCESS
A number of our students deserve extra applause this season:
- Christy Marie Alsado (AFNS) was awarded the Grant Notley Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Undergraduate students Alexis De Villa and Teren Hazzard were named first place winners of the 2025 CLC Student Poetry Contest. - Team Ebb & Flow, made up of B M Sadikullah Mahmud, Laura Isaacs, Hridoy Gope and Dipa Sultana (all REES), were awarded first runners-up in the competition.
- Two of the newest Tri-Council doctoral award recipients are Jemma Forgie, NSERC, and Madeline Robbenhaar, SSHRC (both HE).
We also applaud the Environmental Studies Students' Association (ESSA) for their Campus Sustainability Leaders Award from the Sustainability Council.
FACULTY EXCELLENCE
Congratulations to our award-winning faculty members who were recognized in recent months, including:
- Scott Chang (RENR) was awarded the 2025 Environmental Quality Research Award recipient from the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America and Soil Science Society of America.
- Michael Gaenzle (AFNS) was recognized as the CDL-Rockies Scientist of the Year.
- Robert Grant (RENR) has been awarded the .
- Sheau-Fang (AFNS) joined the prestigeous ranks of fellow of the .
- , led by Anne Naeth (RENR), received the .
- Carla Prado (AFNS) received the Stanley J. Dudrick Award from the American Society for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) – the first Canadian dietician to do so!
- Gleise M. da Silva (AFNS) received the .
- Madeline Turland (REES) was the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award winner.
- Aman Ullah (AFNS) was awarded the Advanced Materials Innovation Award from the International Association of Advanced Materials, and his start-up, ZAFA Biorefinery, made it to the list of most scalable startups.
Join us in recognizing the PCOS Together & MCVD Lab Team (led by Donna Vine and Spencer Proctor), who were named the Top Fundraising Team at the 2025 Run for Women in Edmonton.
This year’s nominations included:
- Aman Ullah: Driving Circular Economy: Converting Waste into Sustainable Packaging Solutions
- Patricia Dolez and her team working in collaboration with Davey Textile Solutions Inc., DuPont, and more: Graphene-Based End-of-Life Sensor for Structural Firefighters PPE Garment Systems
from the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) recognized Jo Ann Chew, Anne Laarman, Guillermo Hernandez Ramirez and Frank Robinson (all AFNS).
