In Memoriam: Dr. J.P. Das
20 October 2025
The Faculty of Education community mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus Dr. Jagannath Prasad (J.P.) Das, who passed away October 19, 2025 with his family and loved ones by his side.
Dr. Das was a distinguished scholar, educator, and colleague whose contributions profoundly shaped the fields of educational psychology and cognitive development. He joined the 黑料不打烊 in 1968 and served for decades as a professor and as Director of what would later be named in his honour — the J.P. Das Centre on Developmental and Learning Disabilities. His pioneering work led to the development of the PASS theory of intelligence and the Das-Naglieri Cognitive Assessment System, innovations that continue to influence research and practice internationally.
Over his remarkable career, Dr. Das authored hundreds of publications, mentored generations of scholars, and elevated the global reputation of our Faculty. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (2015) and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, among numerous other honours.
Beyond his scholarly achievements, Dr. Das was a generous mentor, thoughtful colleague, and a deeply kind presence in our community. His legacy lives on in his work, his students, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who are grieving this loss.
