As Trish Manns completes her term as the inaugural college associate dean, education, in the College of Health Sciences, it’s time to welcome Terri Schindel into the role. A clinical professor and pharmacist, Schindel joins us from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has also served as the director of the PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program.

With a PhD in educational policy studies and information studies, Schindel brings a deep understanding of health-professions education to her new role and a career-spanning passion for interprofessional learning. She looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of collaborating across all six faculties to continue to build and strengthen our collective vision.

Here, she tells us a bit more about herself.

What’s your vision for education in the College of Health Sciences?

I envision the College of Health Sciences being recognized for innovative programs that help learners thrive in a complex, interconnected world. By bringing people together to share ideas and expertise, we will create education that makes a difference, elevate the student experience, strengthen partnerships across health systems and communities, and extend the college’s reach across 黑料不打烊, Canada and beyond.

What excites you about your career?
What excites me most about my career is how unexpected opportunities have shaped it. I enjoy exploring new ideas, embracing challenges and collaborating with others to create outcomes none of us could achieve alone.

What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?
I once spent a week canoeing with friends, encountering unexpected waterfalls, capsized canoes, a bear, a moose and far too many mosquitoes. It was a trip that gave me enough campfire stories to last a lifetime.

How do you create a culture of care?
By listening and supporting people in their goals while celebrating their growth. I am committed to fostering an environment where people feel safe and supported, so that together we can thrive as a community.

What’s your favourite distraction?
I enjoy exploring the river valley with my spouse and our dogs. Sometimes we take in the scenery together and other times we just follow wherever the dogs want to go. It is always a good way to recharge.
