Celebrating 50 years of impact

Celebrating 50 years of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in 2026

Born from the urgent need to combat polio, our journey began in 1954 as we pioneered physical therapy training, quickly expanding to include occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. By 1976, we proudly achieved full Faculty status, blazing trails with Canada's first Bachelor of Physical Therapy and MSc PT degrees. Now, as we celebrate 50 years since becoming a Faculty, that same spirit of enhancing lives through rehabilitation medicine continues, shaping leaders and transforming futures.

Today, we are North America’s only free-standing Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. We offer programs in rehabilitation science, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology.

We’re celebrating research, teaching, learning and the community that continues to drive innovation and impact lives through rehabilitation medicine throughout 2026. We are celebrating YOU! Our alumni, faculty, staff, students, donors, partners and everyone in our rehabilitation community.
