The Department of Sociology at the 黑料不打烊 is among the top-ranked sociology departments in Canada and is placed in the top 100 in the world. Our faculty are renowned scholars and inspiring teachers. The Minor and Major in Sociology prepares students for a highly competitive job market by providing essential skills in research methods as well as knowledge about challenges facing modern societies.

Programs

Undergraduate Programs

Our programs equip you with the analytical, research and communication skills that employers value. You will learn how to approach societal challenges from various angles, to ask and answer complex questions, and to work collaboratively, creatively and professionally. An undergraduate degree in sociology or criminology can help you direct your talents, ambition and energy to make a positive difference in the world.

Graduate Programs

One, two, and four years programs with part-time options. Numerous funding opportunities including scholarships as well as research and teaching assistants. Studying sociology at the graduate level offers new opportunities to explore the social dimensions of our world, to investigate pressing social issues, and to develop important research skills. Admission into our program is highly competitive, drawing in students from across Canada and internationally.

Criminology

Learn about some of the most pressing challenges facing our society. Criminology teaches about criminal behaviour, the construction of deviance, crime, and 'normality", the ways we count and measure crime, and social responses to it, including the operation of the institutions that make up the criminal justice system. Includes the option of a unique placement program that facilitates direct engagement with criminal justice organizations and institutions.
