The purpose of SEM488 is to delve into the complex and dynamic world of managing people in the workplace. Drawing primarily from managerial research that bridges science and practice, this course will offer an informed view of the practical challenges faced by people managers at different levels and functions in the organization. Key topics include attributes of managerial effectiveness; building and leveraging organizational culture; managing the acquisition, development, reward and retention of people across different organizational contexts; algorithmic management; fostering equity, diversity and inclusion without backlash; facilitating organizational change; driving organizational success without compromising employee health and well-being; and managing remote and hybrid work designs, organizational ethics, collaboration and teamwork. This course is for anyone who has to manage or lead others within a work context, and will offer insights on how to succeed in different organizational settings. Full course description here.
